Dozer Services

There are things that you should know before selecting a contractor to work for you.  The weight and horsepower of a dozer is a major factor on how efficient the work will be done.  In most cases the heavier and larger horsepower will perform more efficient and productive for you.

Your contractor said he was bringing D6 Catepillar Dozer.  What does that mean to you?  There are approximately ten (10) different models of D6 that could be showing up to do the job (D6B; D6C; D6D; D6E; D6H; D6M; D6N; D6K; D6R; D6T).  These are all models of a D6 a contractor may use.  Even though it is a D6 it can vary from 90 horsepower to 200 horsepower and from 17,000 lbs to 45,000 lbs.  There are also different models in the D4 series, D5 series, and D7 series.  In some cases a D4 may be smaller or larger that a D5.  A D5 may be larger or smaller than a D6 and so on.

The experience and knowledge of the operator is also a factor in how quick and efficient the job will be done.  Our primary dozer at Elgin Ranch Management, dba, Game Ranch Management,  is a 175 horsepower, 45,000 lbs D6R, and our operator has approximately thirty (30) years of experience on various equipment.

A machine is no more efficient than the operator on it.  In clearing brush it is important to have a large and heavy enough machine to push trees out by the roots, not break them off.  Once you get your brush pushed out you should have a properly equipped dozer with a brush rake to be able to stack the brush into nice, clean piles.  Operator experience is key.
